If you know the wheel rate (WR) you want and the angle of the damper from vertical (A), required spring rate (SR) can be calculated as follows:

SR = WR / (cosine(A))^2

e.g. if A = 30 degrees and WR=100lb/in

SR = 100 / (COS(30))^2

therefore:

SR = 100 / (0.866025)^2

so:

SR = 100 / 0.75

which gives:

SR = 133.33lbs
