Many of us appreciated the diversity of those Saturday afternoons. In addition to the Hillclimbs we would otherwise never have heard of as young teenagers, such as "Rest and Be Thankful", we saw the autotests (Ken Wharton tests)?
Also that wonderful annual event between the Army and the London Motorclub, "Point To Point"(?) It was where we heard and saw stuff such as the Haflinger (with appropriate puns), saw the good old Land Rovers (before the days of Range Rovers), Bedford 3 tonners etc.
Add that to the aforementioned mud plugging, the occasional circuit race or Rally Cross, and you had a brilliant insight into the different disciplines.
However, motorsport wasn't on every week (horse racing was of course...) and we used to rush home from Sunday School to watch the occasional televised Grand Prix and cheer on Graham Hill, Jim Clark etc.
