Some background from the Autosport & MN reports...

Several new faces in the entry:
David Sears in the BT Radiopaging Rouse Sierra
Barry Barnes in the sole Drury Alfa
David Grimshaw in his Racal Vodaphone-sponsored Escort RS Turbo prodsaloon
Alex Postan in a Renault 5GT Turbo Challenge car- this was run by Joe Simons Racing, sponsored by Elephant Memory Systems. The team had a difference of opinion with the scrutineers, having apparently misread the regulations- the little Renault was seriously underweight and had to be ballasted for the race...

Returning were Dennis Leech's Rover, only seen at a handful of rounds this year, and Mike Smith's RS Turbo- the Ilford Photo car described as 'now more of a Group A machine' by Motoring News.
Autosport went into slightly more detail- apparently it wasn't Mike's regular prodsaloon mount: 'The car itself came from Ford at Boreham and began life as a rally machine- the ride height wasnt quite right, and it was maybe 40bhp down on Longman's car, but it was still really quick in a straight line.'
According to Smith 'It was a really levelling experience. If you've ever tried waterskiing, you'll know what I mean, the power is phenomenal, I was just hanging on'

Brodie's Starion was running on Pirellis for the first time- the Pirelli D5s he used in qualifying described by Autosport as 'probably the best tyres in Europe apart from the unobtainable 17" Dunlops seen on the European Rovers....'

The Sears XR4Ti was carrying a camera for Ford- Sears commented 'It's difficult trying to keep Andy in the frame though. It's hard enough trying to concentrate on sticking with him, without having a camera to worry about too'

Sytner qualified 3rd on super-soft Pirelli D7 qualifying tyres- and opted to start the race on a set of them as well.... 'I've got nothing to lose, I might as well put on a show for the public'
