Using the tyres starts from the beginning of Q1. If it had rained during qualifying or if he had been more careful with his tyres, Hamilton wouldn't have been having the problems that he had in the race. You have six sets of tyres to use from the start of qually. If you stop four times during the race, you use all but one of them (the ones that he flat spotted, in Hamilton's case).

I think that the conditions should be more in favour of Hamilton in China, since the temperatures should be more like Melbourne's were and the forecast is for rain on friday and saturday. But then they move on to places like Turkey and Spain.
