Yes I would think that all serious 'players' upgraded thier kit. However amateur and less serious entrants may not have done?
For example I think that Rex Muldoon's one off entry at the final BTCC event of 1987 that KA mentions was still a Cosworth and not an RS500?
I also found interesting the fact that for most of 1987 and possibly into 1988 although all the British series Sierra entrants were Cosworths, the Australian and German series featured both Cosworth's and Merkur XR4Ti's competing against each other. This was presumably because not everyone could get their hands on Cossie's quickly enough...
