Subaru UK needs to take a long hard look at the US operation.

It's one thing investing in motorsport, it's quite another activating it.

Subaru US enters the AMA rally championship and the GRC and they actively tell people a lot more than Subaru UK do. Be it increased social media, email campaigns, promoted posts, merchandise, Subaru fan days/events, competitions, an 'Enthusiast' section of their website, dealer interactions etc. plus PR headline-grabbing stunts like the Isle of Man/Nurburgring laps or the bobsled run. Then there's the excellent Launch Control video series.

An animated .GIF promoted on Twitter and a news article on the UK website when Sutton won the title simply wasn't enough.

Plus it could be argued they shouldn't be using the Levorg, but the WRX STI. I understand that the STI is a limited import run each year, but there is a huge following of that car still. Using that one model, with that brand that millions recognise, improves the whole Subaru brand, gains a following and enhances recognition. Then you could have STI owners meets at each BTCC round, or window stickers for WRX fans etc. Perhaps they went into it thinking wins = Levorg sales. But wins should be shouted about and used to invest in the brand, not direct sales.

That being said, it's great that they are in the BTCC.
