Shouldn't matter if it's running Linux, should still be able to connect to a Windows PC and access the hard drive. If not run up a bootable Ubuntu CD. Will just depend what file format the video files are saved in.
The Foxtel boxes in the last few years (both IQ2 and iq3) have Macrovision copy protection on them which prevents stuff being moved externally.If you have an old box guard it with your life!
