Probably in terms of the 'why not' side of things, the 205 wasn't, toe to toe, a match for the RS1600 or the 16v Corolla (which wasn't regular until '87) so wouldn't have been as competitive but that the Brands conditions suited both car and cetainly driver!

Staying slightly off-topic for a moment- the 205 never seemed to 'catch on' as a Group A racer in the way it did in rallying- There were a couple of (fairly uncompetitive) examples seen in the ETC, but apart from those, and Sundstrom's few outings, I'm struggling to think of any more...
