After the accident on Sunday and initial treatment at Alencon I was transferred to the specialist neurological unit at Caen, where they treated me for a spinal injury. Throughout I was superbly looked after by the team there and on Friday night they operated on me to repair my back and critically ensure I continued to have use of my legs. Since then I've been (relatively speaking) up and about and it looks like I should be headed back to the UK this week.
Throughout this whole process I've been blown away by the level of support I've received from all sorts of communities, not least the incredibly kind words from this thread. There have a been a few times when my head went down, and knowing how many people were rooting for me really helped pull through. Can't understate how important it's been, and how much it will continue to be in the long road ahead.
Some individuals have really gone above and beyond in helping me. You know who you are, and I look forward to repaying your kindness in person as soon as I can. To everyone else, have a great Le Mans, I'll be there in spirit and hopefully be back in 2018.
