Just being the quickest won't win you it, there are so many other elements at play.

Yep, and actually in some ways always being the fastest is a disadvantage as you carry more weight penalties and this directly effects your results over a weekend. The BTCC is really about just enough speed matched with consistency and keeping out of trouble in R1 but with a good result as otherwise that can be your weekend over.
