Penske owned the standings with an 1-2-3, and claimed 10 / 16 wins and 22 / 48 podiums. Montoya was relatively disappointing with an 8th overall finish, with just one win, three podiums and five top 5s.

Newgarden had a great season with Carpenter Racing, finishing 4th with a win, four podiums and six top 5s. Pigot claimed two top 10s in ten races as rookie. Carpenter was terrible, with and 18th as best result. Hildebrand finished 6th at Indianapolis, showing that he's still fit despite his little track time.

Rahal continued doing well with a 5th overall finish, earning a win, four podiums and eight top 5s. He would have beaten Newgarden except for his poor results at the Indy 500 qualifying and race.

Dixon finished 6th in the standings, which is not bad in itself, but his worst since 2005. He got two wins and four podiums, but also four DNFs. Kanaan was 7th, similar to his previous seasons, with two podiums and five top 5s.

Kimball was 9th in the standings, with 5th place finishes at both Indy races as best results and just five races outside the top 10. Chilton was extremely disappointing with Ganassi, with a 7th, a 10th and a 13th finish as best results. Even Daly was considerably better with Coyne Honda.
