It does seem like a sensible idea. A fair few reasonably priced Zetec era cars around look ripe for such a transplant. Perhaps I am being a little over cautious but I prefer the better safety (imagined?) of the newer cars and it just seems daft having to pay out £ 6k for an 85 roller when you can get a much more modern car for the same money. And that said it seems equaly daft to transplant a 40 year old motor into such a relatively new chassis when an alternative power plant could offer more sensible long term running costs for what could be a reasonable initial outlay.
If the club spec Duratec was specified with the minimum number of specialist parts and instead used as much of the base motor as possible then it would be as close as dammit to Kent power and come in at a reasonable price.
All that is needed is an agreed set of tech regs to work from and willingness from the clubs to include the converted cars into the existing class structure.
