The reason they use the Countryman shape is because that is the shape the WRC car was, and probably the homologated shape they can use.
And it was built by Prodrive, the original people who ran Doran's effort and the people that built and put together the Mini Cooper project initially until BMW for some reason and little explanation pulled the plug.
