First BTCC race on the newly styled Silverstone National Circuit. Tim Harvey taking the start from pole man Andy Rouse, both of them soone to be joined by Robb Gravett for a three way battle for the lead. With 30 cars on the grid traffic became a matter that slightly delayed both Rouse and Harvey while under pressure from Gravett who would take the lead midway through. Robb Gravett would just keep out of touch for the remaining laps while Tim Harvey managed to keep Andy Rouse at bay in the fight over second. Laurence Bristow was looking healthy in fourth back a stuck throttle made him spin down to sixth behind Mike Smith and Sean Walker in the sole surviving Graham Goode car, Goode and Mike Newman retiring in latter third of the race with turbo problems after good early runs. Chris Hodgetts lacked horsepower in seventh but won the battle with Dave Brodie, while behind Jerry Mahony strugled with new Pirelli tyres having switched from Dunlops. Mark Rennison scored his first BTCC result in 10th.
Frank Sytner was leading class B when his engine broke after but 2 laps, leaving an easy victory to James Weaver. Ian Forrest would take his privateer colleagues one by one for second ahead of John Llewellyn and the two Maguire cars of Godfrey Hall and John Clark.
In class C John Cleland broke a hub forcing him out of another victory, leaving it to Louise Aitken-Walker to take the spoils, while the Golfs of John Morris and Alan Minshaw battled throughout the race for eventual second.
Phil Dowsett utterly dominated class D winning from Mark Goddard (substituting for Geoff Kimber-Smith for unknown reasons) and Tony Crudgington.
Robb Gravett did the first qualifying session in Mike Smith's car as his own car wasn't quite ready after the Thruxton shunt earlier in the week.
Guy Edwards' car was also ready after it's Thruxton shunt, but then Edwards crashed the Andy Rouse car during practice for Silverstone. This forced Rouse to race the Edwards car.
Only when Les Liddiard withdrew from unspecified reasons was the Sierra of Robin Donovan allowed to take the start.
On June 10th Nigel Mansell and Jerry Mahony is scheduled to perform at the Lancashire Police Open Day in Preston. Mahony will bring along his RS500.
Andy Rouse has been announced as co-driver to Peter Brock at the Bathurst 1000 race.
Dave Brodie's has been disqualified from his victory at Thruxton round 3 because of illegal fuel.
JQF Engineering expects to have their new self build RS500 ready for the Silverstone GP support race for Gerrit van Kouwen.
