...and of course their budgets are dramatically higher than VASC teams plus no-one "makes" teams run around on worn, 2 year old rubber in testing but if teams choose to use that older rubber rather than some of their more recent, better condition tyres (most likely kept for race meetings) then that is a choice the teams make.

It is a cost saving measure and there's no evidence that the tyre let go simply because of its age - may well have sliced it on the inside of a kerb or something like that.
