With the current rules, they do effectively make teams run old tyres.
Especially as the day meant nothing more than just a shakedown that wasted a test day for everyone. The tyres aren't what is being used so everyone wobbled around on old stock. The day wasn't even much of a season launch because it was on a weekday so most fans can't attend. Was the reason for the test mainly so the Supercars family can have a family catchup and pat eachother on the back before the season starts?
Imagine if we had a few tyre brands still involved in the series, a mid-week test like that could have featured some tyre testing and teams doing actual development that will help them during the season....
