It does depend on venue, namely if the locals seem interested, and if said venue can also get people to travel to them. Nurburgring has done well both in '15 and '16, but the track itself represents road racing car culture and will always get a good crowd for international and national events.

COTA has struggled since 2013, be it issues with track management, weather issues (heat and severe thunderstorms on occasion), timing (September where football interest picks up in TX and the US overall, while road racing is by and large a niche sport in NA), or a combination of those issues.

At least at Mexico City, it won't be insanely hot (mid 70's all weekend), but that's probably due to altitude (over 6500ft above sea level), and aside from Thursday, there's a chance of showers each day as of now.

All days this weekend are forecast to be partly cloudy, but Friday and Saturday have about a 40-50% chance of rain.
