In wet races there is a benefit for early morning warm-ups but for the dry races...allowing the top cars more opportunities to optimize their set ups could just lend itself to a more follow the leader type parade.
If the price of greater uncertainty is an occasional half hour of red flag or starts under SC then I would say on aggregate the racing is better without the early morning warm up.
