If they are doing a new cylinder block - it looks like a great opportunity to make the engine a fully stressed member and lose those A-frame braces down each side........I seem to remember in the early days of the 4.0 V10 engine that it was found to be a bit too flimsy in torsion and bending, I think the torsional loadings in a full LMP900 car were much greater than the F1 car that the engine was originally designed for (in 3.0/3.5 guise).......something along those lines!....... hence everyone started running the A-frames.
Someone also please correct me if I'm wrong but I think the class limit is 6.0 Litres for LMP1 petrol engines......so they could also stretch out another 0.5Litres and reduce the peak RPM, probably gain another 10bhp, but most important of all - another significant hike in torque......just my 2 pence worth
