Fun fact: During this period the Miller Brewing Company had the contact with Lowenbrau to make what was essentially a USA / Malt liquor version of Lowenbrau. It was decidedly different than the "real" beer from Germany, but hey, marketing.
Which is why it went from Lowenbrau in 87 to High Life in 88.
