Why do motoring programmes (and I include Top Gear and the various classic programmes need "personalities" on them. Other sports don't.
Steve Jones, Vernon Kay, Dermot O'Leary - their 'point' is that they are experienced television presenters.
When you are producing a TV show, you want a balance of Subject Matter Expertise for the subject of the show and a presenter skilled to present.
