There is a sound fix I think David , its on Rfactor central, not sure if that will fix your problem though.
Maybe try re-installing to see if that helps or you could just sit there and make the noises yourself....."Brrrrrr........Brrrrrr........BRRRRRRRR..(Missed gear).....Brrrrrrrrr"
