I would suggest that time and timing, as well as expense, had a lot to do with the entry at Townsville.
EOFY would not suit many of the entrants.
Townsville, because of the long haul nature getting the transporters there and back consumes both time and money, commodities that even the most well off of the Gentlemen Racers have to consider, is a big commitment.
Add to that the Street Circuit nature of the venue which can make a minor off into an expensive rebuild and you have a good case fore not going.
One practice and qualification as preparation time for 3 40 min races also ls not very good for guys with limited regular seat time to set up for a rather different circuit.
Personally I think playing second fiddle to the Taxis is not the best option for GT.
