i would nominate the 635 & the CSL as the best,though my mum had a A reg 525ie (apparently rare as even the insurance companies hadn't heard of it)
it had a long stroke 2.7 engine & although it wasn't fast it would do 60 mpg (no lie) when my old (hated) 728i couldn't do more than 15mpg
not worried about modern BMW'S as i would never buy one anyway but each to his own
