When I bought my used Explorer, it had expensive shocks on it. When it was time to replace them, I just bought a heavy duty shock made for light trucks. They worked fine and saved a lot of money compared to a top brand name like Koni. And yes I do a little offroad. The Explorer really does need beefed up anti-roll bars too. At least the 91-94 models did.
