I can't remember whether it was 1971 or 72 when I was working for Wooding in Hamburg. At that time Zak was running a 1300cc Escort. We built two Escorts during the winter. Maurice Gomm (not sure of the spelling) prepared the shells for us. I brought them back to Hamburg in the transporter. The back axles came from Ford Cologne and were aluminium. The suspension links were clamped on as opposed to being welded, a bit like a large SU throttle arm! There were four trailing links and a Watt's linkage. The leaf springs were replaced with Teflon ones, which did absolutely nothing, springing was supplied by East to West crossed over tortion bars (modified Morris Marina from memory). The cars were completed over the winter, testing completed and all the spares prepared. Wooding went bust before the season started and Zak bought the transporter, cars and spares which were all ready to go! I went back to the UK and never found out how the cars performed or what Zak did with them.

Wooding escorts were driven by Jörg Obermoser and Gerhard Schüler in 1972 in the DRM. Any chance they went bust in 1973??
