The figures being talked about in that article are less than some of those I have seen associated with the WRC, so perhaps this is a "cheaper" (I use the term loosely) alternative? I still think the withdrawal of VW from the WRC was as much a publicity stunt as it was a financial necessity.
The engines would be my only concern at the moment, as I wonder how much expertise VW have with that displacement engine (and running that level of power).
