That's a most interesting observation. As far as I know, there were no qualifying races in 1988, but what often happened was that the non-qualifiers started in race 2, replacing cars which retired or damaged in race 1. So it could be a picture of the 4th start of the weekend, the first and final of race 2 (check my site if you lost me; race 1 was started thrice, with no finish, race 2 ended in the fourth and final mayhem).
