He might well do, but normally we consider pitting first an advantage because that's usually how it goes. And we consider not covering cars pitting for the undercut a silly thing to do. Ferrari did it by the book for Kimi - pitted the leader first and only to cover those going for the undercut. That worked, as Kimi only just came out ahead of the other cars. So if they'd waited a lap then they'd have probably lost the lead. Ferrari had no choice to pit Kimi because the cars behind were faster. Vettel having extra speed when he was released meant he didn't have to be pitted, and that's what made the difference.
Had they pitted Vettel first and Kimi second then they'd have lost the lead and we'd all be calling them daft for throwing away a 1-2.
