I think the catagory needs to take the lead on this, and re-write some rules.
Firstly, they need to do away with relying upon the manufacturer to give the say-so to running a certain bodyshape. The catagory, in conjuction with the teams, should ultimately decide what shapes to use, if the manufacturer doesn't have any input.
We already have Merc, Nissan, GM and Ford engines, so on the basis of that if it's in the best interests of the fans and catagory, then perhaps the catagory should give the go-ahead for PRA and DJRTP to run the Mustang, regardless of what Ford wants to do.
If Betty wants to go back to running Mercs, they're homologated, she's got everything there to run them, and she too, should be allowed to do it, regardless of MB.
The catagory can't rely on manufacturer input anymore. What's going to happen if all manufacturers decide not to grant the teams permission to use their bodyshapes? Things need to change!

That might be ok for Sports Sedans, but what happens if a manufacturer doesn't want their 'brand' or bodyshape in a high level series? Presumebly legal action might be what follows?
I think Sports Sedans has skated on thin ice below the radar on this topic for a while..
