They had to react to Mercedes stopping. Lewis would probably have got the undercut if Kimi had stayed out. The reason they were in that position was that Kimi didn’t open enough of a gap. He only needed 2-3s lead to be allow them to react a lap later than Lewis pitted. He failed to do that. Vettel would have managed that (if he hadn’t messed up in a different way).
I was cheering for Kimi and was gutted, but he wasn’t let down by the team they did what they had to.
