Recently I had a look at the 1983 ATCC where George Fury lead the series all the way to the final round, where he and Nissan elected NOT to participate. The reason given was he had to drop a score where championship rival Allan Moffat didn't. But with the kind of top 2 and 3 results Fury had during most of the year he would still have had a fighting chance to take the title, but why he didn't even try is beyond me.
