Grand Prix of Denver Activities

INDIANAPOLIS (August 26, 2003) – The Mile High City will get its first taste of this weekend’s Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver in the form of guest bartenders from the Champ Car World Series at a downtown block party billed Champ Car Night, featuring driver appearances, a popular local band and vehicle displays.

Champ Car Night is the official welcoming party signaling the return of the 750hp Champ Cars to scenic Denver on the city’s 1.647-mile temporary street circuit. From 6:30 – 9:00 p.m., festivities will take place on Glenarm Place between 15th and 16th streets. This is in the heart of the open-air, mile-long 16th Street Mall corridor, a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike.

Three participating restaurant/bars, Marlowe's, the Paramount Café and the Hard Rock Café, will be serving as official hosts. From 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Champ Car drivers Michel Jourdain Jr. (#9 Gigante/Centrix Financial Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone), Sebastien Bourdais (#2 McDonald’s/Lilly Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone), Mario Dominguez (#55 Herdez Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone), Mario Haberfeld (#34 Mi-Jack/Conquest Ford-Cosworth/Reynard/Bridgestone) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (#31 American Spirit Ford-Cosworth/Reynard/Bridgestone) will be pouring drinks at these locations as guest bartenders, meeting fans and signing autographs. CART Toyota Atlantic Championship drivers A.J. Allmendinger (#4 RuSPORT), Aaron Justus (#3 RuSPORT), Danica Patrick (#24 Argent Mortgage) and Alex Figge (#69 Pacific Coast Motorsports) will also be on hand to meet fans and participate in the evening’s festivities.

At the same time, local band Cali Na will be entertaining the crowd with its unique funk/jazz sounds. Show cars, special Ford concept vehicles and other displays will be part of the festivities. The event will conclude at 9:00 p.m., though fans are encouraged to stay and continue the celebration.
