Its on again.. looking for a tyre supplier for the main V8Supercar series in 18" sizings, and maintaining 17" in the Fujitsu series for a period of time.
The contenders (according to
Here) are said to be Dunlop, Michelin, Hankook and Yokohama
No sign of Bridgestone.. hopefully with their newly freed up capacity by not running in F1 could be enticed back to the sport...
There will likely be a large promotional fund required as part of the deal, to provide tyres for keen prices, but also to promote their participation in the media directly, and perhaps, as Dunlop have done, as round sponsors and indeed sponsors on race cars (FPR)
It would also be nice of V8SA chose their tyre parameters a little more thoughtfully. The rain tyre at the weekend in Adelaide was not good, the cars were wheel spinning and aquaplaning at the barest touch of the throttle... so what might be needed is an intermediate tyre, and a 'monsoon' wet, on top of a medium and soft choice for dry rubber..
Or we will again see perfectly good race cars compromised in the wet..
Whoever wins will more than likely take over some of the existing personnel servicing the series, so the transition should be reasonably smooth....
