Last year, in a field of 59 cars (excluding Garage 56), there were 32 prototypes. This consisted of 9 LMP1s and 23 LMP2s.
Next year there will probably be 5 LMP1s, leaving space for 27 LMP2s. Will there be 27 new generation LMP2s racing next year?
There were 10 WEC-entered LMP2s at LM last year, and the Michael Shank car from IMSA. Assuming similar numbers next year, will ELMS/IMSA fill the 16 car gap?
So will we see:
a full grid of 2017-spec LMP2s/DPis,
a partial 2017 field and some grandfathered cars making up the numbers, or
a smaller, 2017-only prototype field and a bigger GT field?
