To be fair, Super Touring themselves had to abandon their technical freedoms too, as the costs were just out of hand. Something like 500,000 EUR to build a car, so they say. Very, very well made, like this Radisich Mondeo:

The build quality of Supercars, I think, stepped up over time to match the workmanship of the Super Tourers from about 10-15 years earlier. Lots of beautifully turned out pieces on the 2011 Bathurst winner, for example:

Definitely by 2010, you could say the Supercar build quality was on par with the Super Tourers from 15 years earlier, IMO.. not too many "towers of power" by this time.
The Brock Advantage racing car is certainly fairly rudimentary by comparison!
