Race control to race car radio communications.

The main organising club asked if we were interested in a a portable radio system with earpieces for each driver to enable race control to keep in touch with us, i.e. to warn of oil or crashes, let us know if safety car was out on the circuit or race red flagged etc. I would also imagine this could be used to encourage stragglers to close up on the safety car or advise they will loose their position or gee guys up to line up for their races, warn offenders that they had been black flagged and to get off the damned circuit so we didnt have a fiasco like we did this year with an Escort dropping oil all over the track but refusing to get off, a nice little "If you dont come in this lap it will cost you 200 quid" in his shell like may have done the trick!

I thought it sounded a good idea but the downside (there is always one isnt there?) would be the drivers would have to pay for and get to keep the equipment at a cost of £150 which presumably also goes towards the cost of the base station etc. I feel it would help safety and a smoothly ran race if race control were in touch with us (we wouldnt be able to talk back) but the general concensus was it was too expensive and didnt seem much interest, any thoughts on this?
