A V8 Charger was also never raced. The E55 (340 V8) was only released as an auto with a single exhaust, without the track pack options. It was slower than the E38/49. The E55 was sold as a luxury tourer, not a sports car. The E55 manual which Greg Crick is racing was the "supercar" that was killed off.

A V8 XU-1 prototype was raced by HDT at Bathurst in 1972 at the ATCC Easter meeting. It competed in Sports Sedans with Colin Bond driving and apparently Improved Production too. The car was number '134' and had a stock 308 V8 and was used for evaluation of how a XU-1 V8 would go at the mountain in October. It's identified by the huge front spoiler and rear wing. There's plenty of info on the car including Firths book 'Holden and I'.
