Samurai-san, I am an English conversation school teacher. Most of my students are salarymen or college students, and all of them say that English proficiency is a must for new employees, or at least a promotion.
Hayashi-san of Dome possesses a decent degree of English proficiency (his articles in Racecar Engineering are OK), but I don't know much about the engineering staff. But being a Japanese based company it would be safe to say that at least 90-100% of the conversations there are in Japanese. There's also a cultural change a foreign worker faces when entering Japan. I think you know what I am talking about.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. A gaijin has to adjust to Dome, not Dome adjust to the gaijin.
