My earliest visits to a race track were to Brands Hatch in the late 1950s as an aunt and uncle ran a pub, The Bull, in Horton Kirby. As I recall, the most common trackside headgear was a bobble hat and outer garb was often a duffle coat; very few trilbys or tweed to be seen but I suppose that's the difference between Kent and Hampshire.
