A few facts
1Bathurst is the only Supercar race on the anti siphoning list.Albert Park and Phillip Island Moto GP are the only other motor sports events on that list.
2The coordination of ad break times on Ten/Foxtel during Albert Park and Bathurst has nothing to do with the list.It is part of the commercial arrangement between Ten and Foxtel for those events.Phillip Island Moto GP which is on the list is shown ad free on Foxtel.
3Media ownership laws mean Murdoch cannot increase his share of Ten above the current 15%.
4The network has only stayed on air because of a line of credit with the Commonwealth Bank which had to be personally guaranteed by the main shareholders. The bank has said it will no longer be willing to continue this arrangement when the current arrangement runs out in a month or two.The other shareholders except for Murdoch and possibly Gordon weren't willing to continue personal guarantee of Ten debt.
5Murdoch is only in this as he thought he saw a way of getting government to modify anti siphoning laws.Ten was to be a Trojan horse for Fox Sports. If he doesn't think this will happen he then has no interest in his 15%
6Ten shares are worth only 1% of what they were 5 years ago. There is no way back.In a world of streaming, pay tv etc it is not viable to have 3 commercial networks in Australia. The other 2 which aren't in great financial shape either would love Ten to fall over as their bottom line would improve.
Will Ten go off air?Yes,no,maybe. It is a real possibility.
