I can understand if you have 3-4 people who need to do this but with just one driver and the fact that he tried to qualify in 2021 couldn't they have just let him run with everyone else for that 2 hour window instead of having him lap on his own? A small thing and im not all that bothered, just seems a bit daft to have him have 2 hours of the track to himself.

There are a lot of legacy rules that are still in place but don't always make the most sense. It is slightly different when we have more than 33 cars trying to get in too. The history of the event with people trying different cars and engines and solutions to going fast meant all this practice for a month was important. But today it really is just getting reps with the same machine you had last year (for the most part).
