Team Isert STW BMW Super Tourer for sale in Australia

In Auto Action classifieds there is an ad for a BMW 320i. It is obviously ex-Team Isert, from 1998 STW Cup.

Does anyone know how it got to Australia?? Why wasn't it raced here in 1999?

I was wondering the same thing as well. Unless it is like the Audi A4 that was for sale a few months back, which when advertised in AA was still in America, this car may still be overseas but being offered for sale here because the cars can still be used.

The ex-Team Isert car would be a very good buy, and doesn't the car look great in the orange Jagermeister livery.

WRT to the Audi ad, I recognised the email address as that belonging to a Audi NA marketing/PR person who came out here for the ALMS race. From that, I suppose they got some contacts and the idea that the car could be sold out here.

The BH contact phone number of the BMW is 08- where's that? South Australia?

OTOH, the car doesn't have to necessarily be in Australia (wrt to the BMW) or in NA (wrt to NA), the car can always be shipped. Furthermore, I'm bet you could probably negotiate a commission with the sellers if you were able to find a buyer for those cars as well. The mean side of me would say, heck, so what if it's a good deal, there's not too many venues for the car to race in Australia or in NA.
Has the GT production guys officially created a class for old ST cars yet? But I have to admit, 42.5K AUS for a ST car is indeed a bargain. heck, it's cheaper than a showroom stock M3. Of course, the ST car isn't road legal.

What kind of gas mileage does a ST car get anyways???

"Has the GT production guys officially created a class for old ST cars yet?"
- Procar won't have a bar of ST. Since they have left the TOCA package, they have gone from strength to strength, even now at the stage where they are basically staying to themselves (kinda forced, but it is what they were planning for in a roundabout kind of way). The STs are now on the Power Tour package, and they will be racing again with the future tourers, I suppose, if sufficient numbers can be generated.

"But I have to admit, 42.5K AUS for a ST car is indeed a bargain. heck, it's cheaper than a showroom stock M3."
- With the exchange rate, it probably works out to be US$20K, o 14K in the UK, tis a bit of a bargain. But I wouldn't go spending that kind of money because I can- I'd like to know if it is any good, history etc..

"What kind of gas mileage does a ST car get anyways???"
- Dunno. I suppose they would do about the same number of laps around Bathurst in stint, but how do the sizes of their tanks compare?

The car can be run this year in ST, probably why it is being sold over here, also, the number may be to an Australian, who may be finding out the interest in the car down here, it could still be overseas. Also, the car can run in Sports Sedans can it not.

In state level motorsport- no, unless it loses the sequential shifter. But, it could get an invite into the National Sports Sedans Series.

I don't suppose anyone still has a copy of this ad? I know its been over ten years but you never know...

The reason I ask is my BMW ST was owned by John Saunders in WA and a google search of the phone number mentioned above corresponds to Kellahan Saunders Recruitment Consultants. Also I've got some old photo's of the car with orange door frames....

Well this morning I went to get this for you but forgot that I had my Mk1 with its nose in the air blocking the cupboard doors with the newly reco'd steering box laying beside. So yadda yadda yadda a few hours later the box is now fitted, the car is back on the ground and I could roll the car back to open the doors. Clipping found in minutes, subsequent hours lost reading Auto Actions circa 2002.

I will PM you the Mobile and Home numbers on the clipping Matt.
