BD Series Engines
Being an avid rallycross enthusiast, over the years I have seen more cars than I care to remember being powered by a BDA, BDE, BDT etc,etc engine - normally in the front of an Escort. Can anyone point out the differences - or send me in the right direction as to some reading material?

BD stands for belt driven. Thus, BDA is belt driven A series engine (not mini A series but cossie A series).
The FVA (formula three i think) is the same engine (tuned differently) but with gear driven cams if I remember right. |

I think the FVA (Four Valve type A) with gear driven camshafts was F2, not F3.
I'm not sure how closely related the FVA was to the BDA. At least some sources seem to suggest that there was little in common apart from the four valve per cylinder design. http://www.btinternet.com/~AVO.Club/...te/rs1600.html As for the others, the following cross reference and cosworth history link are probably what you are looking for: http://www.race-cars.com/utility/coswrthr.htm http://www.cosworth-technology.co.uk...y_history.html |

The BDA was the derivative of the FVA created for homologation in the RS1600 Escort at 1601 cc so that it could then be bored out as required - the block may have been shared but I'm not sure about anything else - as I recall eventually there were versions down to 1300 and up to 2000 - at a guess BDT is a turbo even perhaps - I've just looked at the links mentioned above and one has a really thorough list - admirable !

they did do a turbo version . . .over 250 bhp apparently
i dont suppose it lasted long, and given the cost of BD lumps today, I dont suppose many people want the liability of one! obviously if any ones got an unwanted one taking up space, Id be happy to plonk it in thew cortina |

was going off the top of my head and stand corrected on the link between BDA and FVA...
the Evo RS200 had more than than 250bhp, didnt it? As it was going for Gp B should it not have been substantially higher than that in Evo form? |
