esorniloc should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
How do you say Gené?

OK (sorry if anyone thinks this is a stupid question), but how do you pronounce Gené?

Is it how ITV (Martin and James) say it `Jen-hay'.

or is it prounounced `Hen-hay'?

I once recall it being prounounced the latter and just wondered (any Spanish speakers around??) how it should be said!

I always thought it was Hen-ay but did here Patrick Head and Sam Micheal both say "Jen-hay" during the weekend. What do the Eurosport commentators say for his brother Jordi in ETCC as that feed goes to Spain, so they must have to get it right (well, maybe, it is Eurosport afterall!)

It's one of those can't be written in English sounds. Pull your tongue into the back of your mouth, lift it up and try to make a sound like an angry snake. Sort of gggghhhhene.

Apparently it's Hen Nay! Marc should have a press conference and announce it, as I'm sure he's ****ed off about it already.

Its Hen-ay. G or J is pronounced with a H in spanish.

Does anyone remember his older brother Jordie?
More recentley he has been racing trucks in the world champioship, but I remember when he did formula ford our learned/wobblyheaded friend Toff Needell Pronounced it Jordie Jeenie!

In normal Spanish it would be 'Hen-hay', but Gené is a Catalonian surname then the pronunciation is 'Jen-hay'.

The first syllable is said like the French word for I, je, the "G" said like the "G" in Gil de Ferran. The second syllable is said like the negative response of a question that asks "Aye or Nay?"

Here, here, the Catalan resident at 10-10ths comes to your rescue!

Gené. First of all it's written with the accent, always. As Fish_flake said, it's French "je" with "g" and then "né"... It's really tough to translate it.. in a way, it's similar to saying "Hey", without yelling. It's the sound of that "e" but not so high.

The normal e English uses would be the "è" for us Catalans, and "é" accented to the right (Gené's) is more "closed". A lower sound, without arriving to the sound of the e in "the".

(Jordi is sweating)

All English commentators I've heard say "Genaay". So, they are saying it wrong.

And it's Jordi and Marc, not Jordie (god! looks horrible) and Mark.
