the Kelly Krate aka the #16 car
I dont buy this bit of spin courtesy Kelly Racing:
Kelly Racing is evaluating the driver and sponsorship combination for its #16 entry in 2011. With drivers and sponsors locked in for three of its four cars for next year, the Braeside-based team is looking at a number of options for its fourth entry, currently driven by West Australian Tony Ricciardello. Pit lane rumour has suggested that if there’s change in the driver’s seat, David Reynolds is the man in line to drive the #16 Commodore VE entry next year. Team owner/driver Rick Kelly told Speedcafe.com.au that whatever the decision they make on the driver, improving the team as a whole is the priority. “We’re looking to take steps up on both sides of the garage next year,” he said. “I think the results that we’re getting in the Jack Daniel’s garage need improvement, and so do results with Kelly Racing garage. At the moment, we’ve thrown a lot at Tony, and he’s put in a lot of effort to do better. “We still have a few rounds to get it as good as it can be. Rick, you've got todays Britek Barge out there. Maybe you should put in a few laps at each round & prove its the driver not the car. |

Is the #16 even a "Kelly" Spec Chassis or is it an old 2007/08 Perkins VE?

to answer the query from Cavvy, check what they said about Wood and McNally before dumping them... if similar you haev your answer
as i mentioned elsewhere, i reckon they are either going to up the seat buy price therefore get the car higher up with more go-fast bits bought from the increased seat buy price... OR buy a driver and contribute a deal of money to the car to bolt on the go-fast bits I guess it comes down to whom is financing the go-fast bits, KR, Tony R or a new driver |

Is it true that neither Rick or Todd will even put a lap time on the Stratco #16 at a test day because they all know how slow it is? It's easier to cast doubt on the current driver than show sponsors that #16 may be a dog.

Kelly to join board to help team...
My first question is why? Not to put too fine a point on it, but what will the KR group offer the board of VESA when in reality there are still some serious problems on the home front? The Kelly Racing equipe has existed in various forms as Perkins Engineering since 1986, so while there was a relocation of personnel, the original IP in those cars, however they were hotted up to meet 'KR specification', came from the Perkins equipe. So it is quite grating that every man and his dog seems to reduce their expectations for this team because they are apparently "NEW" The problem in this squad to my mind is two fold: -Commercially they are apparently not approaching the funding level across four cars that a red and silver outfit seems to have managed to accumulate across two - Technically they have the capacity to make and prepare cars and equipment, but the 4 cars are not all quick, not all consistent, not all capable of achieving results at the same time, if at all. While solving the first issue can fix the second, it still seems extremely difficult to secure a corporate sponsor who wants to be seen on an alcohol branded car. Case in point is the Bundy Rum crew, who dont have substantial backing from any other brands, in fact Holden doesnt brand their cars (except when Mr Briscoe was at the wheel @ Bathurst) as that sponsorship contravenes their policy not to support alcohol brands. The "Kelly Krate" as described here could equally apply as an issue with the #11 car, which hasnt shone with any kind of glory this season (other than 1 sprint race at Phillip Island), despite a Bathurst winning pilot and that chassis being the half/half PE/KR chassis built for Mr T.Kelly when Perkins Engineering ran the show. Will there be a change in sponsors next season, in drivers, in chassis, in performance? Its hard to see it from here... |

2 years ago when larry perkins owned 7 and 11
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Racing Jason Bargwanna's #11 car is the car previously run by Todd Kelly in 2009 chassis number PE049 The Kelly's and Perkins swapped one of their racing numbers between themselves so that the Kelly owned licences could make use of the #7 racing number ? dose Perkins still own the REC 7 and 11 or 11 and 15 |

And that LP seeks some remuneration/quasi-lease revenue from the two entry slots?

Who knows, there may be a deal in place for KR to take these REC's over on a never never financing plan, funded by the REC income from VESA... |

Isn't that what Tasman did with Ashby and Reed?

I suspect although it's the same Chassis, it'll be sporting a raft of new gear on it.

Interesting quote from R. Kelly...............
“I’m disappointed not to run my new car, but at the same time I’m quite excited to run in the older one and race it up front where it belongs.” |

pathetic Kelly !!
Any chance a compliant press might ask a hard question of Rick, e.g lifing of his gear v that Ricciardello ran.
Transparent spin Mr Kelly ... |

So does that mean all four of the KR cars have a similar/same standard of parts in them this year? ie. can we judge results on driver performance rather than equipment?
