Speed Demons! (Rallyx)
Ok so, if you take a standard road shell add say 10,000euro worth of suspension and another 60 on Gearbox, Engine etc.. youd end up with a pretty compeditive Supercar. or you can spend any amount oof money on supercar apparently.
So given lets say €20,000 Euros (£26,000) what would you build for modified or stretch it for supercar ?: ?? €20,000 euro may not get you alot or will it? A 106 Maxi / GTi2000 (My Car) is one what do you think you could build for that amount!? |

I would buy 2 division 2 spec cars so i could also race them in Europe.
Thomas Hoses OPel Astra Gsi - 10,000 Euros and Roman Castorals Seat Ibiza - 15,000 Euros What more could anyone want. That way u can race in GB, European or any other championship. Sounds good to me. |

I'd buy 1 div 2 spec car and something to transport it around with and maybe there could be some money for spares/maintenance left over.
As for supercar with 26k.......hmmm a gearbox and maybe a set of diffs if you're lucky?? Or you could try and build a full car for that and just get your arse kicked. I supppose it depends on how competitive you want to be...26k on a modified building it from scratch and you might be somewhere near the pace!!! But with the cost of modified rising all the time and the interest (from competitiors point of view) falling its probably not worth it. |

I would build a space framed Renault Clio for Modified. Because they make a 6 cylinder mid engine Clio it means I could fit any homologated 6 cylinder engine in the boot. If money was no object then I would use a 6R4 engine. But as i've only got £20K then either one of those V6 ford Scorpio engines with the cosworth heads (350 bhp can be found quite easily), or the V6 as used in the Mondeo. I would mate this to a hewland gearbox and I think the package would be very competitive.

Surprising the next bit will be so. For 20,000 Euros you could have a Rallycross Car to Match Chris Evans 106 Maxi's are the quickest S1600's and even quicker with a 2.0litre engine in them. Chris Evans has 280 HP and the car ways 850 KG's so thats 3.4 KG's Per HP which makes the power to weight ratio 1 - 3.4 A 106 Maxi with all the gear will Preform at upto 250 BHP Easaly, with only 700KG's weight you would have a power to weight ratio of 1hp to 2.8 KG's 1 - 2.8, so forget your 50+ Grand on a micra, get a 106 Maxi built for 20 and show that micra up Well thats our theory anyway along with a good setup of corse |

Talking about Renault Clio V6 Sport, i've always thought that they could be the spiritual successor to the Metro 6R4.
If you could convert a geniune (ie not a spaceframe replica) to 4WD and run the mid-mounted normally aspirated 3 litre V6, it would be unbeatable. It could run at the weight limit for 2500cc-3000cc where as the 2 litre turbos run as a 3000cc-3500cc. Also no turbo means no turbo restrictor and i'm sure with a bit of money spent, 400-500 bhp may be possible and with much more flexibility than the turbo engines. Look at what Gibson does with his 500bhp 6R4 compared with the 700+ bhp turbos of everyone else. He's still pretty competitive. The problem is i'm not sure if the rules allow it.I don't think that Renault have produced enough road going examples for them to be homologated. I think that the Euro (and soon British) regs are pretty much making it impossible to race anything other than a 2 litre turbo WRC-type machine though. |
