Driver Wanted

We are looking for a funded Driver for the Canadian Formula Ford Championship

Technical Specifications of a Formula Ford
Canadian Formula Ford Championship Series

The Series
The Canadian Formula Ford Championship Series is in its twelfth year as Canada’s exclusive National Professional Series for Formula 1600 race cars.

Race cars
The Formula Fords are single seaters, open-wheel race cars fabricated from tubular frame chassis and powered by a standard Ford, four cylinder, 1600cc "Crossflow" pushrod, normally aspirated engine fed by a two-venturi carburetor. The engine is capable of producing 120 bhp at 6,500 rpm. Rear wheel drive. Non-synchromesh racing gearbox, four gears forward and reverse.

Chassis manufacturers
Most Formula Fords are built in Europe by manufacturers like Van Diemen, Vector and Swift. However, more and more chassis are being designed and built here in Canada by private constructors such as Ontario’s Aero and Quebec’s CMV.

Engine builders
The Ford engines are tuned and prepared for racing by various specialised engine builders such as Ivey, Quicksilver, Scholar, Villeneuve, Mortimer, Mangov, TAG, Britain West and others.

Spec fuel
Esso 92 octane is the series' spec fuel. All cars use Esso's high performance premium fuel at all events.

Spec tire
The Hankook Z2000 is the spec tire for 2001.
Tire dimensions are: 185 / 60R 13 at the front and 205 / 60R 13 at the rear.

Data acquisition systems
On board information gathering systems are permitted provided that no downloading of information is allowed in the pit lane after the checkered flag has dropped; no downloading of information may take place from the end of the session until the car is released from impound; and the series’ Scrutineers can view the downloaded information at any time during the race weekend.

Vehicule weight
Minimum weight as qualified or raced, with driver and required safety equipment is: 1050 lbs. with outboard suspension, 1125 lbs. with inboard suspension and 1088 lbs. with inboard-outboard combination.

Race distance
Under normal race conditions, all Series’ races shall have a minimum of 56 kilometres and a maximum of 72 km.

The drivers
The Canadian Formula Ford Championship Series is open to all drivers who hold a valid Professional Racing Licence from ASN Canada FIA.

Sporting sanction
ASN Canada FIA, Inc.

Qualifying
On a road course, the cars circulate around the circuit as fast as possible. The starting positions are established from the fastest lap set by each car. The fastest car starts the race from the pole position - in first place. The starting grid is made of several rows of two cars each.

Starting procedure
The Canadian Formula Ford Championship Series uses standing starts just like in Formula 1. After one or two warm-up laps, the cars are positioned on the starting grid. When all the cars are stationary and ready for the start, the starting official turns on a red light followed by a green light seconds later which means the start of the race.

Series’ sponsors
For a fourth year in succession, Ford of Canada is the title sponsor of the Canadian Formula Ford Championship Series. A. N. Deringer (customs broker and freight forwarder) is the presenting sponsor. Associate sponsors of the Canadian Formula Ford Series include Esso, Shields, Autosport Basi Racing School, Hankook, Cardinal and Player's.
