New Williams Fw25

Yeppp! The new car's here...

Same livery...looks much sleeker than last year's design...but doesn't the front look very much like a Ferrari? What Patrick said about making a Ferrari and paint it blue and white seems to come true...

But with this new start, new car, hope that Williams do make a big leap over last year... Good luck guys...its a nice car, not radical, but looks nice. With the power of BMW, and if the chassis is improved, the future looks bright.

These pics are a little on the large size, but as it sets the scene for the topic, I might as well leave them (yes, Steve, I know I'm a hypocrite!).

However remember there is a 400 x 400 limit. These pics slow down the page load times for those with modems and they are available elsewhere, so a link will probably suffice. For more info read FAQ

The front nose looks lower and more "slanted".

Anyway, just a new things i noticed...

1) The engine cover seems to have a downward arc at the rear...

2)the middle part (from the front wheels to the rear wheels) of the car doesnt seem much different from last year.

3) the car doesnt have twin kneel again

Looks very svelte at the rear end, they've really swept that rear bodywork in.

The FW07 was the car that finally broke Williams' gp duck. It took the concepts of the Lotus 79 and moved the parameters to new heights. It was successful for three more years. I'm not suggesting that this is the case but the F2002 was a leap ahead of anything else in the field so this could be the FW07 equivalent. I'd like to see it.

well yeah, the front really droops down.

The car looks far more round and the back end, and even the livery helps it look like that.

The front wing looks relatively the same, and is it me, or does the collar around the cockpit have the gap in between it, and the airbox, like the McLaren?

The airbox, right near the bottom, has a very sudden drop on it, which looks odd to say the least. Looks like a nose.

Well, thats it for the while. The Williams website is suffering under the stresses of the world press.

Someone was ****ed when they where putting the livery on, note the hp on the side pod. How are they going to take on the might of ferrari when they can not do the simple things correct.

I noticed that they did away with their 2002 barge board design. I was hoping they would go more radical than this.

Love it. It seems fairly radical to me. The cut-way over the gearbox is interesting - they must have seriously slimmed down their tgransmission, and also tucked the dampers away very neatly. Still looks bery Williams-like. Nice

Oh yes - conventional barge-boards. How did I miss that? Is this a first for Williams, does anyone know?

I'm guessing now but did they not run barge boards in '97/'98/'99? The car looks great to me, much like a Ferrari at the front as many have said and certainly seems to be a huge change from the cars of recent years. Here's hoping it delivers and Ferrari have a fight on their hands this year.

They've changed the "flaps" at the radiator exits, they don't cover the rear wheel anymore. Anyway, to mee it looks that the engine cover is not lower than last year's, actually it's higher.

That's the last year's car

96 to 98 they ran normal barge boards, as for 99 I know they did not run them in monza or Ralf had knocked them off in the pic I was looking at.

Well actually at one race (or test, forgot when/where) Ralf lost one bargeboard but the team discovered that it had little influence. They decided to drop them.

Exactly. It was at the Austrlian GP in 1999. Ralf did a spin and one of the barge board ran away. They used very large barge board in the begining of the 99 season.
The new one is the copy of the one wich Ferrari used in 2002. The new FW25 have similtudes with the F2002. It can explain why they will use normal barge board this year.

Did someone notice the form of the sidepods. They are very differents, much more make round. They also seem to reduce air entry.
