2005 RWD BTCC Car

Been reading with interest elsewhere that there'll be a new car in the BTCC next season which is RWD - but not German or a Lexus. Autosport also picked up on this story.

I think Chris Hodgetts (2 x BTCC Champ) is behind it, but not sure if it's 100% himself or a team.

I'm lost as to what other RWD cars there is available ?

Could it be the Brilliance project, which is modifying a BMW in China? I know that's partly-German, but all the same. In any case, I suspect Chris' son Stefan would be one of the drivers - he did nicely with GA last year. Thinking out loud, maybe Gary Ayles is involved in this?

No can't see that one. The Monaro seems to found a home in the British GT Championship and can't see Vauxhall being happy with it racing againest the Astra.

As for another rear-wheel drive car, I can't think of anything of the top of my head.

Maybe Brilliance enters 2 cars with Chinese drivers in BTCC. John Batchelor said this in an interview interview on crash.net:

Quote:
“We will hopefully announce the driver line up on 1 December,” he told Crash.net. “It is likely that in year one the drivers will all be experienced former BTCC drivers which we will need to develop the car. We will also be selecting three Chinese drivers to shadow these drivers and introduce them to the team over the next three years.
See full article: http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view...=10&nid=102229

BTW Are you shure this car is RWD?

Monaro is about twice the maximum permitted engine size. "Not German" rules out Mercedes. Can't think of another RWD car off the top of my head.

Chris used to post here although haven't seen much from him recently. Come on Chris.

I have just done a quick google search for Real Wheel Drive cars and it has come up with something rather interesting, the Chrysler 300C.

I think it must be the Brilliance project, mustn't it, then? Only non-German, non-Lexus RWD car which could fit BTCC/S2000 regs, that I can think of, anyway.

The Brilliance car fits the bill but Mr Batcholor has said he is doing the WTCC and he will not be in the BTCC next year.

When he says 'not a Lexus', he could be trying to be funny and in the end mean a Toyota Altezza

Infiniti is not sold in Europe.

I think Brilliance enters some races in BTCC.

i think the fact that teams can now build new etcc cars themselves circumnavigates this problem, i just dont know why they'd be rumours about the integra as well if this was not true

I can't think what it could be.. from a marketing point of view, anything other than a Lexus or BMW surely wouldn't make sense? Brilliance?

Perhaps its one of those confuse everyone for a while statements

As mentioned earlier, thinking about it more, the Toyota theory could be it, the 'Lexus' that was used in the BTCC in 2001 was actually imported from Japan (as a Toyota) AFAIK.

I can state factually that the car was brought over as a Toyota Altezza and rebadged as Lexus. The Altezza was used both in Japan and other championships in Asia.

I thought it was a roadgoing IS200 that was stripped and converted, but it had the Altezza engine in it?
